Treating Impotence In Older Men

Impotence is a condition where the make can not achieve or sustain an erection. There are many factors that contribute to this condition and the good news is that this condition can be treated most of the time. Impotence in older men is usually more common compared to impotence in younger men. The main reason why impotence in older men is more common that in those of middle aged to younger men is that many diseases and conditions that affect a man's potency rear their ugly heads as we get older. In spite of this, there are also some cases of younger men being impotent.

Causes And Treatment Of Impotence In Older Men

The main causes of impotence in older men are diseases and conditions that often result to symptoms that include impotence. Diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and many others can be the causes of impotence in older men as well as impotence in middle aged men. Another possible cause of impotence in older men may be hormone imbalances brought about by age and many some conditions. There are plenty of medications that can primarily address the conditions that are causing impotence in older men.

Other possible and all too realistic factors that can contribute to impotence in older men are psychological factors. These include stress, guilt, depression, anxiety, conflict with your partner and confusion over sexual orientation. These kinds of mental anguish that can affect a man's performance in bed can be treated by accepting facts and resolution of the problem to one's satisfaction. Impotence in older men can also be resolved through psychiatric sessions with a professional to deal with issues that may be bothering the man.

Other things to look out for are lifestyle choices that may bring about impotence in older men. Smoking and alcoholism are among the top causes of impotence in men of all ages. Studies have shown that smoking can constrict the arteries, blood vessels, tissues and some muscles to the point that these atrophy and cease to function. Drinking too much alcohol can also affect your libido to the extent that you have desires but your body can not fulfill them. Leading a sedentary lifestyle can also affect muscles which are not used, therefore leading to impotence.

Certain medications can also cause impotence in older men as well as men of other ages. These medicines include but are not limited to antihistamines, tranquilizers, antidepressant and those for treating hypertension.
